The tympanum on the West wall of the main chamber of TT1, the Tomb of Sennedjem in Deir el-Medina. #254189649
Description
Pictured is the tympanum on the West wall of the main chamber of TT1, the Tomb of Sennedjem in Deir el-Medina. The group is symbolic of rebirth. In the central axis is a white pedestal which sports a labelled canopic jar, surrounded by two lotus flowers. Above is a vase surmounted by 3 wavy lines representing `Nun`, the primordial ocean from which the world arose. A white circular `shen` heiroglyp is framed by two udjat eyes, a witness of the reconstituted body. The group is protected by two lapis-blue Anubis jackals reclining on either side on tomb shaped structures. Sennedjem was an Ancient Egyptian artisan who had the title `Servant in the Place of Truth`. He was buried in this tomb along with his wife, Iyneferti, and his family.
