Description
The yacón (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is a species of perennial daisy traditionally grown in the northern and central Andes from Colombia to northern Argentina. The tawny disc florets are male. The seeds are stored in the achenes and are dark brown in color. In general, seed yields are fairly low some ecotypes do not produce any seeds at all due to pollen sterility.
