Description
Pictured is Anubis performing the opening of the mouth ritual on the Mummy of Nebenmaat in TT219 at Deir el-Medina. Above is the winged goddess Nephthys, associated with the experience of death. She is the counterpart of the winged Isis at the opposite end of the chamber, who is associate diwth life and rebirth. Nebenmaat was an ancient egyptian artisan who lived with other workmen in Dar el-Medina. They built and decorated the tombs in the nearby Valley of the Kings as well as their own tombs in Deir el-Medina. He was buried with his wife Mertseger. The paintings are in the monochrome style.
