Holday Decorations on State Street, Chicago, Remain Up well into January #254490731
Description
This image, captured with a Mamiya medium format camera, was taken on a cold early January night in 1984, on Chicago`s famous State Street, in the heart of the downtown `Loop.` Among the notable objects are the clock at the Marshall Fields department store which has since closed. Alsobeing born on the left, the sculpture of stainless steel and granite, called `Being Born.` It has since been moved to another location. Chicago residents particularly appreciate holiday decorations to boost their spirits during the long, cold winter months. They are in no rush to take down the cheerful visual highlights of the Christmas shopping season until well into January. The busy street is virtually deserted, but after all, as the clock tells the tale, it is 9:29 pm, and no commercial establishments are open at that hour.
