Description
The Monument to the Defenders of the Coast on the Westerplatte Peninsula, 25 meters high, made in the form of a mound, commemorates the Polish defenders of the Coast in September 1939; built in the years 1964 - 1966; the monument consists of 236 granite blocks; it is decorated with bas-reliefs and carved inscriptions commemorating the defense of the Polish coast in 1939; the shape of the monument resembles a jagged bayonet stuck into the ground; the seven candles at the foot of the monument refer to the seven days of Westerplatte defense.
