Description
Interior of the of the Saint Andrew Cathedral in Carrara with the 14th-century wooden crucifix by Angelo Puccinelli, Tuscany, Italy. The Cathedral of Carrara is dedicated to Saint Andrew, the Apostle and is built entirely of marble, stone and wood. The marbles used are mainly Apuan marbles such as white marbles, Bardiglio, Nero di Piastriccioni, Rosso di Castelpoggio, but some also come from quarries in the provinces of La Spezia, Lucca, Siena and Genoa. It was built for three centuries, and its construction began in the 12th century. For this reason, the cathedral respects due different style: the Gothic style and the Roman style.
