So Different or Purcell`s Club 550 Pacific Avenue San Francisco #257994413
Description
The So Different Club was one of the first to open in the district, so soon after the 1906 Earthquake. It`s founding was by a pair of former Pullman Porters, Lew Purcell and Sam King. It was unusual from the start by serving all races. The whole layout of the saloon was typical for the time period and location. So too was the patron paying one of the Ladies to dance with him, and if lucky, taking him upstairs, for extra money. It was the music and dancing that went on inside, that is most memorable. Some of the great Jazz and ragtime musicians of the time played there. And because of all the great music, some of the most famous dances of the time were also started here. As seen 14 September 2022.
