Description
The Caesalpinia leiostachya, is a plant commonly known as ironwood or jucá that formerly belonged to the group of plants called Caesalpinia ferrea var. leiostachya (Benth, 1870). It is a large tree, originating in Brazil, native to the Atlantic Forest, on the pluvial slope of the Atlantic. The hardwood of pau ferro is very hard, probably the densest and heaviest in the Americas some call it "Brazilian ebony" this very high density means that the species, especially in parks, is constantly struck by lightning. It was used in the making of clubs
