Herald Hotel San Francisco 1 #259620853
Description
With a lot of downtown ruined by the Earthquake and Fire of 1906, San Francisco needed a lot of rebuilding. The area around Union Square already was the main theater and shopping center, and near the financial district and public transportation`s, so to accommodate all of these, hotels were being built in the Tenderloin district, plus to accommodate the tourists for the upcoming PanPacific Exposition of 1915. Built in 1910, this seven story building has 150 rooms and 97 baths, making it one of the largest in the area at the time. But what makes it truly unusual is the use of a steel frame instead of cheaper masonry. As seen 19 October 2022.
