Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos #260744507
Description
Initially, a wooden two-storey house, located on the corner of Hospital and Mariinsky Streets, was provided for the courtyard of the Pyatogorsky Bogoroditsky (former Vokhonovsky Mariinsky) convent by the merchant of the 3rd guild Kozma Karpov. On July 24, 1896, the rector of the Intercession Church in Marienburg, Priest Vasily Levitsky, laid a temporary church in this house (that is, conversion to a church). Two weeks later, the work was completed, and on August 6 of the same year, Bishop Nazari (Kirillov) of Gdovo consecrated the main altar in the name of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the next day ââ¬â the side chapel in the name of St. Alexander Nevsky. In 1915, after the consecration of the stone courtyard church, this temporary church was abolished and soon dismantled. The architect Leonid Kharlamov and the railway engineer and architect Alexander Baryshnikov were engaged in the development of the project of the new stone cathedral.
