Located on the Bowery between Broome Street and Kenmare Street, is this mural by world-renowned street artist Lexi Bella memorializing Marvin Gaye and Tupac Shakur. Marvin Gaye, a singer and songwriter of the 1950s through the 1980s, and Tupac Shakur, a songwriter, actor, and rapper who rose to fame in the 1990s, each defined the music of their generation but fell victim to gun violence. A beautiful, artistic tribute to two musical legends, this mural has been defaced by a plywood board covered with work permits from the New York City Department of Buildings. Apparently, the mural will soon be gone, but until that day comes, why cover the face of Tupac Shakur in such an insensitive way?
