Description
This is a Trichonephila clavipes spider species, Araneidae family. Common name: golden silk orb-weaver, golden silk spider, or banana spider. Commonly found in Central America. The female is very much larger than the male. The spider is not aggressive and only bites if handled roughly, the venom is relatively harmless and rarely causes more than slight redness and temporary localized pain. Observed at Cerro CahuàProtected Biotope, near Maya Biosphere Reserve (MBR), Petén department, northern Guatemala.
