Description
Flies are a type of insect from the Diptera order & x28;derived from the Greek di meaning two and ptera meaning wing& x29;. The most obvious difference between flies and other insect orders is that flies have only one pair of wings for flight, called halteres, which originate from the hind wings, on the metathorax & x28;except for a few species of flies which are flightless& x29;. The only other insect order that has two fully functioning wings and has dumbbells is Strepsiptera. However, unlike flies, Strepsitera& x27;s halteres are on the mesothorax and wings on the metathorax.
