Description
Hagia Sophia was the first church to be inaugurated on February 15, 360 AD during the reign of emperor Constantius II by bishop Eudoxius of Antioka. The church was built next to the site of the Byzantine imperial palace. On May 7, 558 AD, during the time of the emperor Justinian, the eastern dome collapsed in an earthquake. Then, on October 26 986 AD during the reign of Emperor Basil II & x28;958-1025& x29; it was also hit by an earthquake again. Finally, at the beginning of the 14th century, a major renovation was carried out so that it would not be hit by another earthquake. The specialty of this dome lies in the shape of the dome which is large and high. Its central size is 30 meters, its height and fundamentals are 54 meters.
