Tipulidae is a family belonging to the order Diptera (flies) and superfamily Tipuloidea. Cylindrotomidae, Limoniidae, Pediciidae are classified as the Tipulidae subfamily by some researchers. The Tipulidae are solitary insects that have spread throughout the world in limited numbers. Its diversity can be found in the tropics, the northern hemisphere, and in the highlands.[2] Adult flies in this family usually look similar to mosquitoes and vary in length from 2–60 mm (0.1–2.4 in), although tropical species can reach up to 100 mm (4 in) in length.
