Description
This is a skipper butterfly, species unknown, Hesperiidae family. They are named for their quick, darting flight habits. Most have their antenna tips modified into narrow, hook-like projections. More than 3500 species of skippers are recognized, and they occur worldwide, but with the greatest diversity in the Neotropical regions of Central and South America. This one is feeding from a flower, Melanthera nivea plant species. We can see the proboscis. Observed near the Maya Biosphere Reserve (MBR) in Peten department, northern Guatemala. Climate change is a threat for this grass skippers.
