The Central Subway was the idea of Chinatown resident Rose Pak who almost single handedly persuaded City Hall on the idea following the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake which caused the Embarcadero Freeway to be torn down.Scheduled to have been opened in 2018, there was finally a lite opening on 19 November 2022, for weekend service only. Full service begins 7 January 2023.Unfortunately Rose herself did not get to see any of it, as she passed in September 2016.As seen 7 December 2022.
