Konko Church of San Francisco 6 #264175776
Description
Konko is related to Shinto, itself the only indigenous religion of Japan.Having no organized authority, there are many different practices within Shinto itself.Konko traces to 1859 when Konko Daijin, for who the practice is named, had become very ill and lost his voice, received a Devine message. Having dedicated the rest of his life to helping others, he recovered. This San Francisco church has its origins in 1930, just one block from this site. As the congregation grew, this larger site was bought, but with the Japanese Internment period during WW2, the church leader was held for nearly six years, closing the church.Fortunately, during the 1960`s, there was renewed interest in saving the church instead of having it turned into residential dwellings. With added community support, this new building was made, in the traditional manner, in 1974.As seen 14 December 2022.
