Description
This is an Egretta caerulea heron species, Ardeidae family. Common name: little blue heron. Found regularly in the United States, Mexico, Central America and northern South America. Climate change will probably cause their distribution to spread north. Juveniles are entirely white. Adults are darkly colored, with purple-maroon heads and blue bodies. Their eyes are yellow and their legs are greenish. Observed at lake Petén Itzá, El Remate village, Guatemala.
