Description
Pictured is a bronze sculpture titled `Hippie` by student artist Lexis Thompson installed in December, 2020, in Lewisville, Texas. It is one of a series of six life-sized bronze jackrabbit sculptures made into various anthropomorphic characters to portray historically significant events in Lewisville. The series is called `Hop Into History`. `Hippie` celebrates the Texas International Pop Festival, a large music festival held in Lewisville on Labor Day weekend of 1969. This sculpture is located near the stage in Wayne-Ferguson Plaza. The City engaged the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design to create the sculptures for this public art project. The sculpture concepts and clay modeling were completed by selected student artists, and the casting and finishing work on each sculpture was completed by David and Martin Iles of Bolivar Bronze.
