Description
Charlotte Crabtree, better known as Lotta, was born in New York City in 1847, but first rose to fame, and wealth, in San Francisco as a child actor and singer. She would become the highest paid singer of her time. Even after she went back to the East Coast, she always and fondly remembered San Francisco, and donated this fountain to the city, the first monument in the city, on the 25 anniversary of statehood.During the 1906 Earthquake, it became a gathering place, and every year since, survivors would return and celebrate and remember. After the last two survivors died by 2015, starting in 2016, there were reenactments instead. As seen 21 December 2022.
