Historical Lime Kilns, Enkhuizen, Netherlands #266156848
Description
These are three out of four lime kilns initially built in the 1920s. They were used to heat large quantities of sea shells to extract lime. These kilns originally stood in Akersloot in Northern Holland but were dismantled in the 1970s when the demand for lime had disappeared. Three of these kilns were then rebuilt in the historical museum of the former Southern Sea (Zuiderzeemuseum) in Enkhuizen as part of a reconstructed village from the early 20th century.
