Hsinchu City (Taiwanese: Sin-tek-chh?) is a city in Taiwan Province of the Republic of China. It is located in the northwest of Taiwan. The city is divided into 3 districts with a total area of ??104.1526 square kilometers. It faces the Taiwan Strait to the west, Miaoli County to the south, and Hsinchu County to the north and northeast. Except for the southern half of the whole territory which belongs to the Zhudong hills, the rest is a low-lying plain. The ancient name Zhuchu [Note 1], was the earliest location of the Zhuchu Society of the Daokas tribe of Pingpu aborigines[2], also known as Wind City, so named because of the strong winds of the Nine Falls.
