Lake Toba tropical rain forest #267461960
Description
Lake Toba is the site of a massive VEI 8 volcanic eruption around 69,000 to 77,000 years ago which triggered global climate change. Current dating methods establish that 74,000 years ago is more accurate. This eruption is the largest explosive eruption on Earth in the last 25 million years. According to the Toba catastrophe theory, this eruption had a major impact on human populations around the world. The impact of the eruption killed most of the people living at that time and is believed to have caused population decline in Africa, the Middle East and India, thus affecting the genetics of human populations around the world until now.
