Colchicum autumnale, also known as naked ladies,[1] is a poisonous plant that flowers in autumn and resembles the true crocus, but is a member of the Colchicaceae plant family (unlike the true crocus, which is a member of the Iridaceae family). The nickname "naked ladies" was given to her because the flowers grow from the ground long before the leaves appear.
