A male pileated woodpecker (campepbilus principalis) making a cavity on a palm tree in Everglades National Park in Florida with chips flying. The male has a red stripe below it's eye that the female does not have. They are voracious cavity makers, looking for carpenter ants and other insects and building nesting sites.
