It is found in the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Australia, where it is closely associated with wetland habitats, such as marshes and swamps. This butterfly is easily recognizable by its black upper wings and white underside, with a band of black spots running along the middle of its front wings. It feeds mostly on nectar from flowers and overripe fruits, and can often be seen hovering around moist areas. The female Great Eggfly is particularly remarkable for its success in laying eggs on afloat leaves.
