Alexandra's Birdwing is the largest butterfly in the world, with a wingspan measuring up to 11 inches (28 centimeters) across. It has brilliant coloring, with velvety black wings, bright orange-yellow markings, and white bands along the edges. It is found in the rainforests of New Guinea, and it is named after Queen Alexandra, the consort to King Edward VII of England. This beautiful butterfly is endangered due to deforestation and poaching activities in its natural habitat, but conservation efforts are under way to help protect it.
