Description
Pushkar is one of the oldest cities in India. Located northwest of Ajmer, the city has become one of the most famous tourist destinations among Indian as well as international tourists. The annual Pushkar Camel Fair, held in November, is a major attraction. The streets of the town are lined with shops selling everything from clothing and musical instruments to crystals, jewelry, and souvenirs for tourists. There are several temples in Pushkar and the most famous is the Brahma temple, which is one of the few temples dedicated to Brahma in the world. Hindus consider a journey to this city in Rajasthan to be the ultimate pilgrimage that must be undertaken to attain salvation. According to Hindu scriptures, the sacred Pushkar Lake is described as Tirtha Raj â the king of all pilgrimage sites. Pilgrims from across the country visit the lake to take a dip in its holy water. Pushkar Lake is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats and over 400 temples.
