Hainanese chicken rice is a dish of poached chicken and seasoned rice. Created by immigrants from Hainan in southern China, variants of the dish can be seen throughout Southeast Asia, where it is a culinary staple. In Thailand, it is called khao man kai, literally meaning 'chicken oily rice'.
