Pictured is a mural in Benson from the New Nebraskans series designed and implemented by Watie White Stuios in collaboration with Justice for Our Neighbors, Omaha Public Schools, the Refugee Empowerment Center and the Intercultural Senior Center. A series of monumental portraits of refugees and immigrants who had recently become new citizens of Nebraska was created based on interviews conducted by Watie White. Watie would create a woodcut portrait of the person before organizing hundreds of community volunteers to paint in the portrait.
