Title
Lathraea squamaria close up, the common toothwort in spring nature. #273420298
Description
It is parasitic on the roots of hazel and alder, and occasionally other trees, and represents the second occasion on which a member of the family Orobanchaceae lost the ability to photosynthesize and became parasitic. In the photo, it grows near the river Novohradka in eastern Bohemia in the month of March. In the background you can see the river and the houses of the village of Chroustovice.
