Description
The Pope John Paul II Bridge (Ponte Papa Giovanni Paolo II) that connects the new town to the old town of Gallipoli. The bridge connects Corso Roma, the city's main thoroughfare, to the historic center. It was built between 1603 and 1607. It originally consisted of 12 arches. It is approximately 150 meters long. The foundations and arches have withstood well over 4 centuries the many sea storms of the Scirocco and the north wind.
