Bammie's Walk of Fame Metallica San Francisco #274925419
Description
San Francisco has a rich history of music and musical entertainment going back to the Gold Rush era. This really became a very big industry during the late 1950's when home televisions were becoming more common, and people can see in their own home many of the new pop music icons. And more and more of these pop music icons were from right here in San Francisco. To commemorate this, then mayor Willie Brown in 1997 kicked off the community effort of placing plaques in the Civic Center area to the individuals and groups who have made San Francisco their home, this cities version of Hollywoods 'Walk of Fame'. The Bammie's,which stands for Bay Area Music, hosts their own awards, was awarded to a local group,in this case Metallica. Although actually formed in Los Angeles,in 1981,they have been in San Francisco for most of their time. In the genre of Heavy Metal, they are also one of the original bands in the category of Thrash,an even more extreme form of Heavy Metal. As seen 23 March 2023.
