Liberty Street Historic District San Francisco Marshall Doane House #276052035
Description
Prior to the discovery of gold in Northern California in 1849,causing it to very quickly become an American state, most of the state had Ranchos, very large tracts of land, granted originally by the Spanish government then the Mexican, going back to before 1823. Several of these were even in present day San Francisco, most of the history of which got lost to history. One that is known was owned by Jose de Jesus Noe,who started selling off pieces of the land, and willed some to his children. This was a very large parcel, comprising about a sixth of the whole present city. Liberty Street is just a slice of this. When homes started going up here,in a wide range of styles, this was a very middle class area. This Barnett Cottage at number 45,built in 1863,is an example of the Italianite style. As seen 19 April 2023.
