The Real Estate Associates Lexington Street San Francisco 6 #276453033
Description

When the gold rush hit Northern California in 1849,the population of San Francisco just exploded. As downtown was becoming over whelmed with homes and businesses,to help meet the need, more and more homes were being built further and further out in what was then considered 'The Suburbs'. One such suburb was what is today The Mission District, where groups of people would form 'Associations' to buy whole blocks of land together,in order to build their own homes on. Then came The Real Estate Associates, which started buying up several whole blocks of land and building homes on them in speculation. Stevenson Street, now called Lexington Street, between 20th and 21st streets, probably has the most number of all original designed homes of these TREA homes in the city. Since this always was a smaller side street, the homes were smaller and cheaper. These homes, built in 1875,were only 22 by 75 feet and sold for $3,350. The new owners were mainly tradesmen. As seen 19 April 2023.
