Pictured is a statue of Saint Joseph holding Jesus and lilies in the church of San Bartolo in San Gimgnano, Italy. The small church is a place of Catholic worship. It was built in 1173 and underwent many changes until the society of San Bartolo was established in 1572 and gave its name to the church. Joseph was a 1st-century Jewish man of Nazareth who, according to the canonical Gospels, was married to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and was the legal father of Jesus. Joseph is venerated as Saint Joseph in the Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Church and Anglicanism.
