Column of Justice in the Square of the Holy Trinity in Florence, Italy. #277829316
Description
Pictured is the Column of Justice in the Square of the Holy Trinity in Florence, Italy. The ancient Roman marble Doric column was re-erected by Cosimo I de Medici after an arduous transport from its original site of installation in the Baths of Caracalla in Rome. It had been given by Pope Pius IV to Cosimo I de Medici. The 50-ton, 11 meter long granite column is topped by a purple porphyry statue of Justice designed by Ammannati. It took the artisan Fancesco del Tadda and his son Romolo nearly 11 years to complete the statue. Tourists are seen around the base.
