Description
Pictured is a Monument to Saint Margaret of Cortona in the Cathedral Square of Cortona, Italy. The marble statue is by sculptor Giuseppe Pompilio Ticciato of Florence. The bronzes depicting an eagle, a lion with a book and a lion with the head of a rooster are the work of sculptor Giovanni Lapi. The Saint, proclaimed co-patron of Cortona together with Saint Mark, is depicted in the habit of the Franciscan Third Order, which she put on in 1275 at the age of 28. The statue reached Cortona in 1749 and it's current placement dates to 1776. The monument was restored in 2013.
