Located in Marigot, Fort Louis was built in 1789 under Saint-Martinâs and Saint-Bartehelemy's governor Jeans Sebastien Durat. The goal of this fort was to defend the settlement and the warehouses of Marigot port from British and Dutch pirates. The warehouses were used to store products such as rum, salt, coffee, and sugarcane.
