The rugged region of Priorat (Priorato in Spanish) is located in the province of Tarragona. To the south of the Ebro river and about 25 kilometers from the sea, it is a region in which the terrain undulates like an accordion. The Priorat wine region coexists with that of Montsant. El Priorat has 1,800 hectares of vineyards and it is very difficult for it to grow or expand. On the one hand, the relief itself makes it difficult to plant vineyards in the steepest areas. On the other hand, the neighboring denomination of Montsant surrounds Priorat as if it were a ring.
