Title
church of st. nicholas in bialowieza #279340366
Description
The building was built of red brick, which was made on site by a German brought from Upper Silesia - Juliusz Karol Miller. Hewn stones from the Bia?owie?a Forest were used to build the foundations. The body of the temple was crowned with two domes. One of them was intended for the bell tower. The bell, weighing 125 kg, was so loud that in favorable weather conditions its voice carried as far as the outskirts of the Bia?owie?a Forest. An iconostasis made of Chinese porcelain was brought from St. Petersburg. The final finishing works were completed in 1897, just before the visit of Alexander III's successor, Tsar Nicholas II, to Bia?owie?a.
