Mark Russell In Washington, DC In 197 Editorial Photo

Political comedian Mark Russell during a performance at the Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC in 1977. His podium is decorated with a winged caricature of himself. Russell was also a fine pianist who would sing and play wickedly hilarious ditties mocking the political establishment in person and in regular Public Broadcasting broadcasts recorded in Buffalo, New York. He employed satire and parody to great effect and PBS found in him a fundraising goldmine from 1975-2004. Russell died from prostate cancer at his home in Washington, DC, at the age of 90, on March 30, 2023.
