Description
Pictured the Torre del Popolo and the church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva in the Communal Square of Assisi in Italy. Originally a Roman temple build in the 1st century, the Minerva temple was completely renovated and transformed to a church in honor of the mother of God on the order of Pope Paul III after a visit to Assisi in 1539. Of the ancient temple, the façade has been preserved, with six Corinthian columns supporting the architrave and a small pediment. The Torre del Popolo, also known as the People's Tower, is a medieval tower with roots in the mid-1200s that served as a symbol of the communal power in Assisi during the Middle Ages. It was originally built as a defensive structure and later became a bell tower. The tower stands about 47 meters tall and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.
