California U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein adresses the congregation at Temple B'nai Abraham in Livingston, New Jersey, in May, 1992. Feinstein was a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors before becoming mayor upon the assassination of George Moscone in 1978, serving a 10-year tenure in office. At the time of her speech, she was 59 and running her first term in the Senate. She was in 2018.reelected for the fifth time. Feinstein served in the United States Senate longer than any other woman, 31 years. She died at her home in Washington, DC, on September 28, 2023, at the age of 90.
