Australasian swamphen (Porphyrio melanotus) is a species found in eastern Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand. The bird is about the size of a domestic hen and has red forehead, beak and legs. Breast and underparts are blue while back is blue-black. When threatened, it often walks away rather flying off. When they fly, take-offs and landings are clumsy, and short flight distances are preferred
