Description
The Jaisalmer fort, also known as Sonar Qila or the Golden fort after its luminous golden sandstone, is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan after Chittorgarh. Founded by Maharawal Jaisal in 1156 AD, its a magnificent crenelated edifice that protectively towers over the city. Built atop the 250 ft high Tricuta or Gorhara hill, the fort lies South of Jaisalmer city and runs roughly east to west.
