Norwegian stage and film actress Liv Ullmann pauses to have a bite to eat at the Jerusalem Cinematheque cafe on September 11, 1987. As it happens this day the cafe was renamed as the Liv Ullmann Terrace Cafe in her honor not merely for her Oscar-winning talents as an actress, but also for her notable work as a philanthropist and as a devoted human rights activist. She was particularly beloved in Israel for her yoeman efforts joining the struggle to free the famous Russian refusenik, Ida Nudel. Those efforts joined by powerful allies, bore fruit in the following months when Nudel was released and Nudel freed and became an Israeli citizen.
