Description
Taughannock Falls plunges 215 feet past rocky glacial gorge cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the creek gorge. It is the highest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. Taughannock Falls 215-foot drop is 33 feet taller than Niagara Falls. The waterfall and gorge are a hanging valley, formed where Taughannock Creek`s stream-carved valley meets the deeper glacially carved valley that contains Cayuga Lake. Located near Ithaca in Trumansburg in the NYS Finger Lakes region. Originally home to the Cayuga Nation people prior to their displacement from the area during the Clinton-Sullivan Campaign following the American Revolutionary War.
