Description
Pictured is the Fountain of the Dolphins in the gardens of the Parterre di Cortona in Cortona, Italy. It was designed by Ignazio Lucibello and realized in 1954. Lucibello was born in 1904 in Amalfi, and died in Rome in 1970. He was an Italian painter, one of the most famous of the Amalfi Coast. He was an officer in the Italian army and a temporary refuge he took in Cortona after the September 8th, 1943 surrender of Italy to the Allies was announced by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He remained working in Cortona until 1954 when he moved to Rome. The Fountain of the Dolphins was his last tribute to the city.
